Who is the Social Sommelier?

Wine tasting in college is usually reserved as a recreational activity, but in an actual Wines 101 course, Mickey Narea discovered his true passion and set off on a path towards a career in wine. After graduation, Mickey, a Chicago native, began working in distribution and wine sales where his client list would include some of the top restaurants in Chicago and New York. After five years in sales, he happened to be reading the industry-essential book “Setting The Table” by Danny Meyer, and knew he was ready for a change. He launched into the world of restaurant service and hospitality. Mickey set his sights on some of the top fine dining destinations around the world and worked at Eleven Madison Park in New York, Launceston Place in London, and Canoe in Toronto. As Head Sommelier at Launceston Place, Mickey was awarded as a rising star in London, earned wine list awards from Wine Spectator, and helped the restaurant earn their first Michelin Star. Upon returning to Chicago with his family, Mickey started a weekly tasting group for local sommeliers and restaurant professionals and continues to promote the education and success of the Chicago wine community.
